Nose Cone

the pointed tip

The very top of the ship tapers to a point, the same shape Falcon 9’s fairing has, for the same reason: a pointed shape slips through the air more easily than a flat top would.

How it works

Unlike Falcon 9, this nose never separates. It is part of one continuous steel shell all the way down to the engines, since the whole ship, not just its nose, is meant to fly again.

For the grown-up

The nose and barrel are one continuous stainless-steel lathe-turned profile rather than a separate jettisoned fairing, since Starship’s payload bay and its structure are both meant to be reused, unlike Falcon 9’s expendable fairing.
